WCMB Uniform Information
Welcome new and returning WCMB members!

Please review the following to ensure a successful season. Note that uniform care in addition to being prepared for each performance, showcase, and competition are all part of your grade for Marching Band. If you have any questions please contact the uniform manager: booster.uniforms@boosteradmin

Uniforms

Marching Band uniforms consist of the following:

  • Jacket with attached hip drop
  • Pants
  • Gauntlets (wrist cuffs)
  • Gloves
  • Shako (hat)
  • Plume (feather)

Optional Uniforms

Depending on weather conditions, the band directors may have students wear an optional uniform. In the summer, this would be show shirts* and khakis shorts. For color guard, all black.

*New show shirts are provided each year by the Band Boosters. The shirts correspond with the theme of each year’s show.

**The band directors will notify students if an optional uniform will be used. Here is a general idea of what to expect:

  • Football Games: Full uniform OR at the discretion of the band director, alternate uniforms.
  • Showcases: Full uniform OR at the discretion of the band director, alternate uniforms.
  • Veterans Day Parade: Full Uniform
  • Amelia Christmas Parade: Christmas Sweaters and Santa Hats
  • Opening Day or Cherry Blossom Festival Parades: Uniforms

Performance Preparation

Keep in mind, band members do not go home after school on Football Fridays. We strongly recommend that students either purchase a duffle bag to carry items needed for each performance, showcase and competition, OR they can place needed items in their band locker.

Students typically wear their show shirts and shorts under their uniforms. In colder weather, thermals are recommended. Please do not wear hoodies, sweat shirts or jeans under the uniform. Bulky clothing can cause damage to the uniform.

Before and after each performance, showcase and competitions, students are responsible to inspect their uniforms. If they are dirty or damaged, they should report this to a uniform parent immediately. The uniform parent will make the necessary adjustments to ensure each student has a complete and functional uniform.

Uniform Storage

Each band member receives a labeled garment bag for their uniforms. Shoes are not to be stored in garment bags.

All uniforms need to be hung on the rack with the corresponding color of your class. The color you are as a freshman does not change from year to year.

Plume: Students will be plumed before each performance. Plumes are removed after each performance. Please refrain from handling the plumes as the oil from your hands can cause damage.
Shako: Shakos need to be placed in the box provided on the bottom of each rack. If there’s no room on the bottom rack, they can be placed on top of the rack.

Pants: Pants must be folded inseam to inseam before they are placed on the hanger.

Jacket: The jacket should be placed on the hanger with the zipper of the jacket on the same side as the bend of the hanger.

Gauntlets and Gloves: Gauntlets and Gloves should be placed in the back of the garment bag in the pocket of the bags. Please do not leave gauntlets or gloves in your shako box. This helps the uniform parents perform spot checks before performances.

Additional Notes About Gloves

  • Not every band member wears gloves during performances. Each student who needs gloves will receive two pairs each season.
  • It is perfectly normal for gloves to be replaced multiple times throughout the season.
  • Many students cut the fingers of the gloves off. This is 100% acceptable, but this also means the gloves will fray after a few performances.
  • Gloves get dirty quickly, but they do not launder well. If a student needs replacement gloves after they have used their initial two pairs, they can purchase a new pair of gloves for $4.

BLACK socks: Each student must wear black socks that come above the ankle. If a student needs a pair of socks, they may borrow a pair from the uniform closet. The socks must be returned. Socks are available for purchase for $4 per pair.

Shoes: Orders for shoes will be placed at some point before or after uniform fittings. New shoe orders must be paid for before they can be distributed to students.

Additional Notes About Shoes

  • Shoes are not to be stored in your garment bags. Instead, keep them in your locker, band locker, or a bag that should be brought to each performance, showcase and competition.
  • If a student forgets their shoes, there are a limited number of sizes available that a student may borrow for that performance. Borrowed shoes must be returned immediately after the performance.

Garment Bag Storage Following Performances

Students are expected to wait to have their uniforms inspected and sprayed before they are dismissed.

Uniforms should be hung in the same direction to provide the most space possible on each rack.

Uniform Closet

Please do not hesitate to come to the uniform closet for any issues you may have. From the WCHS auditorium, turn right into the Arts hallway and pass the band room. The uniform closet is located near the end of the hall on the right.

From face wipes to antiperspirant, personal care items to emergency first aid, we try to be prepared should you forget something on game day. Our Uniform volunteers are here for you!
